SARAH’S JOURNEY

Sarah has been practicing yoga since 1995 and teaching in New York City since 2008. She has experience in diverse lineages— receiving a 200-hour certification in 2009 and advanced training in 2010 with the Barkan method, she then completed the 500-hour course by Master Sri Dharma Mittra in 2011, and a sound practitioner training in 2017 from MNDFL.

After attending Baron Baptiste’s level 1, she fell in love with the methodology and shortly thereafter, attended levels 2 and 3, completed Fit To Lead, and was an apprentice for many programs.

Her story begins 18 years ago when she pursued her master’s degree in social work at New York University while working as a therapist for addiction and underprivileged teens. She started the first addiction recovery agency in her community, successfully raising over $1 million to serve people who were struggling with substance abuse. She has always been passionate about helping others.

Although she was a natural athlete, stretching was never easy for her. During 2008 NYC marathon, she experienced an injury that led her deeper into her yoga practice. After several months, Sarah started to feel a shift in her mind and body— it became more than just a way to stay active. After several months, Sarah started to feel a shift in her practice. It became more than just a way to stay active and keep fit— it became a form of healing, empowering her to find her voice as a woman in a culture where women are suppressed.

Yoga has since been a crucial part of Sarah’s growth and continues to help her overcome boundaries. These tools have given her the ability to create a life of deep connection and community while empowering others. As a competitive runner and a lifelong lover of dance with a deep appreciation for movement therapy, she invites her students to experience the enjoyment of breath, richness of sensation, vitality of the body, and to push new edges so that they can discover the best versions of themselves.
